If you've been waiting for weeks now, head bowed in hopeful prayer, mumbling "when... when... when will he bring us a Jesus on the sacred cloth... velvet?!", prepare to be rewarded. There He is, friends, and quite done for, by the looks of Him. A fine Mexican rendering, this week's Hombre is a stark, somewhat shocking exercise in Catholic point-making. Read: suffering. At least that's what it looks like to my barely-Methodist eyes. But I did used to be an acolyte, so I guess I know a little about religious iconography, and it's my column anyway, so if I say it's suffering then it's damn well suffering. Nice frame, too.
